Instructions on how to fill in forms for registration and removal from the electoral roll

Instructions for you who are citizen of another EU country how to fill in the form to register or request withdrawal from the Swedish electoral roll in the elections to the European Parliament on June 9.

In Sweden, the European elections will be held on 9 June 2024. Elections will be held in every EU country. You can choose whether to vote in your country of citizenship, or here in Sweden in the place where you are registered as living.

Register to the electoral roll if you wish to vote

If you wish to vote in Sweden, you must be added to the Swedish electoral roll. We have sent a registration form to your home address. To register to the electoral roll, you must fill in the necessary details in sections 1-3, and send the form to your local County Administrative Board (“Länstyrelsen”). If you wish to vote in Sweden in the 2024 European elections, the County Administrative Board must receive your registration form by 10 May 2024 at the latest. Please use the postage-paid response envelope provided. No stamp is required.

If your registration form arrives in time for you to be registered to the electoral roll, a voting card will be posted to your home address. The Swedish Election Authority will inform your EU country of citizenship that you have been added to the Swedish electoral roll. As a result, you will only be eligible to vote in Sweden in the 2024 European elections.

Here’s how to fill in the form (please refer to the numbers on the form and below)

  1. Your country of citizenship is prefilled here. According to the Swedish Population Register, this is your country of citizenship. State where you last voted in the country above. Enter the name of the constituency if you remember it. If not, please enter the name of the town, city or district. You must not enter the name of a place in Sweden.
  2. Your personal identity number is prefilled here. You must sign the form under this box.
  3. Please enter your telephone number and email address so that we can contact you if we have any questions.

Removal from electoral roll

You have previously notified us that you wish to vote in Sweden in European elections. Please ignore this letter if you wish to remain on the Swedish electoral roll and vote in Sweden in the upcoming elections. If you do not wish to vote in Sweden, you must notify your local County Administrative Board (“Länstyrelsen”). We have sent a form regarding removal from the electoral roll to your home address. To submit your notification regarding your removal from the electoral roll, you must fill in the necessary details in sections 1-2, and send the form to your local County Administrative Board. The County Administrative Board must receive your form by 10 May 2024 at the latest. Please use the postage-paid response envelope provided. No stamp is required.

Please submit the form in good time. If the form arrives after the deadline, we will not be able to remove you from the Swedish electoral roll prior to the 2024 European elections. We will therefore still post a voting card to your home address. You will then be eligible to vote in Sweden in the 2024 European elections anyway.
