Various authorities and stakeholders have roles and responsibilities in holding elections.
Swedish Election Authority
The Swedish Election Authority is responsible for planning and coordinating the execution of elections and referenda.
The county administrative boards
The county administrative board is the regional election authority. For example, the county administrative board decides on electoral districts and conducts the final counting of votes in all elections and distributes seats in elections to municipal and county council assemblies.
Election committees in the municipalities
The election committee in each municipality is the local election authority. The election committee is responsible for vote reception in all voting places, as well as the preliminary counting of votes.
Election Review Board
The Election Review Board considers appeals and makes decisions.
