You can vote at an early voting location on election day, so you don’t need to go to your assigned voting location.

You can go to an early voting location anywhere in Sweden. On election day, at least one early voting location is open in each municipality.

Please keep in mind that significantly fewer early voting locations are open on election day than before that date. You might therefore need to travel further if you wish to vote on election day, depending on where you’re situated.

I want to vote in Sweden

As a Swedish citizen living abroad, you can vote early or at a voting location in Sweden on election day.

You can vote early at any early voting location in Sweden between 26 August and 13 September.

If you want to vote at your assigned voting location, you can only do this on 13 September (details of your assigned voting location are stated on your international voting card). In order to vote at a voting location, you need to be on the electoral roll.

That’s great! In that case, the best option for you is to vote early from abroad.

You can do this at any Swedish embassy or consulate that’s open for voting. You can vote early from 20 August 2026.

Opening hours vary considerably, so please check the times for your specific location. On 15 June, we’ll publish details of all voting locations abroad.

That’s great! In that case, you can accompany them to the voting location and assist them.

If the person needs help with selecting their ballot papers and preparing their vote at the voting booth, a polling staff member working at the voting location must also be present. This rule applies whether you choose to vote early or on election day.

That’s great! In that case, voting by messenger is the best option.

This means that the person prepares their vote at home (or in another place where they’re situated). Then you help by taking their vote to the voting location.

The following are needed in order to vote by messenger:

  • someone who can be the messenger
  • a witness (this must be someone other than the messenger)
  • special materials for voting by messenger

OK, in that case, you can contact the municipality in which the person lives.

The municipality can send two polling staff members to where the person is situated to collect their vote from them. This service is called “mobile voting”.

It’s important to book this service in good time.

That’s great! In that case, you can vote early at any early voting location, or vote at your assigned voting location on election day. The staff working there will help you.

Voting by messenger means that the person who is going to help you comes to your home (or to another location where you’re situated).

You prepare your vote at home, and the person helping you then takes your vote to the voting location.

  • a person who can be your messenger
  • a witness (this person cannot be your messenger)
  • special materials for voting by messenger.
