Future election years – overview

Here you can find out when different elections take place and how often they are held. The next general elections to the Riksdag, regional and municipal councils will be held on 13 September 2026.
Elections are held at the following intervals:
- Elections to the Riksdag, regional and municipal councils are held every four years.
- Elections to the European Parliament are held every five years.
- Elections to the Sami Parliament are held every four years.
The next general elections will take place on 13 September 2026.
