Accreditation of election observers
Published: 23 February 2026
Your organisation can apply for accreditation of election observers for elections to the Riksdag, municipal and regional councils, and the European Parliament.
Here’s how to apply for accreditation
Your organisation must apply to the Swedish Election Authority for accreditation of your election observers.
The application must include the following:
- name and address of your organisation
- name, telephone number and email address of your contact person
- delivery information (the accreditation badges will either be sent to you, or will be available for collection by you at the Swedish Election Authority's offices in Sundbyberg, Stockholm)
- each election observer’s given name and surname.
The accreditation will be valid for the whole election period, from advance (early) voting to the final vote count by the county administrative boards.
What does the accreditation of election observers mean?
Accreditation means that the Swedish Election Authority comfirms that an organisation plans to observe an election with a number of election observers.
An accredited election observer may:
- wear a special accreditation badge
- observe advance voting and voting on election day
- observe the preliminary vote count at polling stations
- observe the final vote count by the County Administrative Boards.
Observers must follow the instructions given by election officials.
The purpose of accreditation is to clarify the person's status as an election observer.
