About us

The Election Authority was established on July 1, 2001. The main duties entail preparing and coordinating general elections and national referendums.

Since April 1, 2012 the Election Authority is also the competent national authority for verification and certification of statements of support for European citizens’ initiatives.

The Election Authority is governed by a Board consisting of a chairman and four members.

The Principle of Public Access

In general, all individuals have the right to read official documents held by Swedish public authorities, including the Election Authority. A document is public if it is held by a public authority and is considered in the light of certain special rules to have been officially received or drawn up by that authority. Anyone who wishes to study a particular public document received or drawn up by the Election Authority can address themselves to the authority.
